Overgrown lot, rotten plywood and a dangerous hole yards from a city park has concerned residents calling for action

Posted

Residents in a West Houston neighborhood are raising concerns about an overgrown vacant lot and a large hole covered with deteriorating plywood, citing potential safety risks for families in the area.

The property is located in the 3200 block of Chris Drive, where tall weeds have overtaken the lot and obscured a large hole toward the back of the property.

Michael Brophy, a neighborhood resident, described the issue as a major concern for the community.

When asked to rate the severity of the problem on a scale of 1 to 10, Brophy gave it an “11″ without hesitation.

Residents want the lot cleaned up and hole secured

The concerns extend beyond the overgrown grass. Residents want the property cleaned up and the hole properly filled or secured to prevent potential accidents, particularly involving children.

The lot is next to a city park with unrestricted public access through a neighboring fence, raising additional concerns about the possibility of someone wandering onto the property and encountering the hazard.

City violation notice dates back to July

A city violation notice has been posted on the property since July, stating the hole needs to be filled in.

However, it’s now mid-October, and the dangerous hole remains unfilled and the lot overgrown.

2 Helps You contacted the City of Houston Department of Public Works Director Randy Macchi for an update on the property and what steps would be taken to address the reported concerns. A response had not been received at the time of reporting.

The issue remains on the radar as residents wait for the property to be cleaned up and the potential safety hazards to be addressed.
